Alex (left) and Jonathan on the approach to Sgurr Toll Lochain on the summit ridge of the snow-capped Bac an Eich.

I had my first real experience of hill running today, when I was taken up Bac an Eich in Strathconon by a couple of guys from the Highland Hill Runners. It’s a hill I’ve had my eye on for some time so it was great to get the chance to go up there, and on such a fantastic day.

The picture really shows off the shape of the hill well. We were at the summit within an hour-and-a-half of setting off and back home by lunch time – not my usual day on the hill!

There were incredible views of the Strathfarrar Munros, among many other visible summits, including Sgurr Mor and Sgurr nan Clach Geala in the Fannichs.

A fine day out and I quite fancy another go at this hill running malarkey!
