Spent a very soggy morning pounding the streets of Inverness following the route of the half marathon, which takes place on March 13.

The 12.8 mile run (we skipped the last little bit into the stadium and round the track) was the furthest I had run in… I can’t remember how long. Anyway, it was hard work on the legs, especially the last couple of miles.

Now I know I can get around the route I can concentrate on increasing my speed before race day.

Today it took me 1hr 53mins to do the circuit, which works out at just under 9-minute miles. Anything under 1.45 I’d be happy with on the day, and maybe some drier weather!

  1. Hi Craig. No time to do the marathon this year – baby on the way this summer!

I’ve done a couple in the past, the first was good (Edinburgh), the second not so good (Fort William) – due to my performance rather than the event. I ran Edinburgh in 3.47 but ended up walking from about 19 miles in FW. If I did another one, it’d be the Loch Ness one though, I reckon.

  2. Good luck with the run John. I tore my knee (ligaments and cartilage) at the end of May and though I am back on my bike I still can’t run more than a mile.

The Inverness marathon in October would be an excellent target – I’ve never done a marathon before and last year’s enforced convalesence after training for the Island Peaks Race has been a real shock to the system. Do you reckon you will be going for the full Inverness marathon after doing the half in March?
