This is my ‘local’ Munro, yet Sunday was only the second time I had been on its summit. The first was in a white-out a month or two after we moved to the Highlands.

The weather couldn’t have been better this time, as we could see for miles across the whole of north-west Scotland. It’s incredible when you see the land laid out like that – all the connections between the glens and ridges suddenly seem to make sense.

I had planned this walk, which will feature in my forthcoming book Walking and Cycling in Inverness and the Highlands, for some time as an alternative to the stomp via An Cabar. It’s a longer, tougher route but I hope readers will enjoy it!

The video below shows the view as we arrived at the bealach between Tom a’ Choinnich and Glas Leathachd Beag, Ben Wyvis’s rarely visited secondary summit.
