The Burma Road near Aviemore

I’ve just tackled a mountain biking route that’s been in my mind for years – and found it was well worth the wait. The weather was perfect and I am just about over a horrible dose of flu that’s knocked me out for more than a week, so I was desperate to get some exercise in, especially in these all-too-rare conditions.

The climb up the Burma Road, which links Aviemore and Carrbridge via a pass that reaches around 700m above sea level, is just one part of this adrenaline-filled 30-mile route. It’s a long, slow climb that rewards with fantastic views of the Cairngorms – and a speedy descent to the River Dulnain where things get a bit trickier to ride…

I’ll be writing the full route up for Active Outdoors in the next few weeks so keep an eye on the local newspapers for it – you won’t want to miss this one!
