Active Outdoors interview: Tim Hamlet of Assynt mountain rescue team

The Assynt mountain rescue team covers a huge geographical area incorporating all of Sutherland and Caithness. I spent a day with team in Lochinver as part of a training weekend, where they focused on casualty care followed by a familiarisation exercise with the HM Coastguard helicopter – including practising being winched up and down.

During the day, I caught up with team leader Tim Hamlet, who shares a bit more about how the team operates, the area it covers and his own dramatic reasons for getting involved in mountain rescue in the first place. We spoke as we waited for our “rescuers” to arrive on the scene, where the team members would then assess my imaginary injury or condition.

You can read the interview on the Active Outdoors website.
