I’ve never been on a mountain with so many people on it! To be honest, I was glad to get off the top of Ben Nevis and head down to the CMD Arete for the bit of the day we’d really come for – the scramble between the Ben and Carn Mor Dearg.
Our original plan this morning had been to climb Carn Mor Dearg first then scramble the arete to the top of the Ben, but the weather first thing was awful, so my companion Peter Evans suggested we head up to meet the tourist path up the Ben (our intended return route to meet the Allt a’ Mhuilinn track back to the North Face car park) and see how the weather was then.
It was a great decision, as we enjoyed some sunshine – as well as our fair share of cloud – on the scramble across the narrow CMD Arete to the top of our second Munro of the day. It also meant we enjoyed the peaceful side of the mountain, and that with the better mountain views, in the latter stages of the day.
