I enjoyed a lovely run this morning, nearly nine miles through the forests and fields of South Loch Ness. Headed out with OS map in hand, not sure exactly where I was going to end up or what the route would be like.
As it turns out, it was superb! Met a nice couple in the woods near Torbreck who pointed me in the right direction, as there has been a lot of forestry work there and some of the paths aren’t very clear. However, a good – if slightly muddy – track has been cut which dropped me out where I expected at Cullaird.
Then I headed up into the woods and the climb to Drumashie. These tracks are excellent (and would be fine for bikes, too) and give superb views over Loch Ness between the trees. Once out at the road, I followed it down through Essich back to Inverness.
A good training run and good to know I can run that sort of distance again, as it has been a while since I did much. This week I’ve been trying to do a few shorter runs, too, so hopefully I’ll be ready on March 13 when the Inverness Half Marathon takes place.
