With all this snow about, I’ve had to winter-ise my bike again. So here it is in the snow tonight after the commute up the hill.
I’m using Schwalbe snow stud tyres which grip really well in hard, compact snow and ice – they’re a little slippery on slush and soft stuff, but what isn’t? If you keep them at low pressure, the studs stick into the ice and help grip, while you can also pump them up more fully and use them on ice-free roads without wearing down the metal studs.
Then, as always, I’ve got a decent set of lights front and back, as well as one spoke light (the other is lost in a box in the house somewhere, I’ll have to dig it out!). These are really good for being seen from the side as, when moving, they created a circle of light on each wheel. A great novelty Christmas present and superb for safety too.
