\"\"Today marks the start of Bike Week and it’s a rainy one in Inverness. There will be a range of events across the UK this week and hopefully more people will get on their bikes.<\/p>\n

With the repairs on the Kessock Bridge starting tomorrow<\/a>, little has been said about getting people on their bikes to cross the firth rather than sitting in the traffic. <\/p>\n

Surely Bike Week<\/a> is the perfect opportunity to encourage commuting by bike?<\/p>\n

That’s why myself and Active Outdoors colleague Peter Evans are planning to get our friend and non-cyclist Paul Chalk on his bike to work this week – something I’ve been threatening him with for years.<\/p>\n

I’ve even set up a Facebook campaign – the ‘get Chalky to cycle to work during Bike Week challenge’<\/a> – to pile on the pressure!<\/p>\n

As for myself, my plan is to cycle a different way to work each day this coming week, culminating in a round the Beauly Firth circuit going over the Kessock Bridge on Friday.<\/p>\n

The weather may not be ideal for encouraging reluctant cyclists to get on their bikes, but there’s no time like the present. At least, once the rain stops…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
