The Loch Ness Challenge is starting to feel like a distant memory, but I’ve had a little time to reflect on my recent ‘three marathons in three days’ along the South Loch Ness Trail and Great Glen Way.

A few people have asked if I would do it again. Well, it’s a difficult question to answer. There was such a huge build up to this inaugural event, especially after two years of delays, and it went pretty well. I probably didn’t train as much as I should have – the time pressures of family life and work combining to scupper any hope of that – yet I managed to run to the end.

In fact, I ran the three very different marathons in remarkably consistent times – just two minutes or so between the three finishing times. For off-road marathons with plenty of ascent, I was pleased with my times of just over 5 hours 10 minutes for each one.

But the best bit was meeting up with some lovely people who made the whole experience of the challenge something that will live long in the memory. Read more about my experience – and see more photos – in my Active Outdoors feature here.
