I managed to sneak in a nice bike ride last night, which reminded me (again) just what a fantastic part of the world I live in. Within 25 minutes of leaving home I was approaching Dores looking down over the length of Loch Ness on a beautiful clear evening.
People travel here from all across the world to see this sight, and it’s well worth it, but it’s right here on our doorstep!

I had my first real experience of hill running today, when I was taken up Bac an Eich in Strathconon by a couple of guys from the Highland Hill Runners. It’s a hill I’ve had my eye on for some time so it was great to get the chance to go up there, and on such a fantastic day.
The picture really shows off the shape of the hill well. We were at the summit within an hour-and-a-half of setting off and back home by lunch time – not my usual day on the hill!

I had booked a week off over the Easter holidays intending to do some decorating in the house, but when you live in a place like the Highlands it’s difficult not to be tempted outside…
Here’s a taster of what I got up to when I should have been painting (which I am now having to catch up with!):
I finished today’s half marathon in 1 hour, 43 minutes and 46 seconds. It was a tough one, I must admit, but if you ease off in the training it’s gonna hurt, I guess! Actually really pleased to come in significantly under 1:45, which is what I was aiming for. Now where’s the red wine..?
